EDINA is a national data centre, designated by Jisc, and forms part of the 'virtual library' for staff and students in UK higher and further education. A key strategic objective is to improve access to spatial data, via the Internet/Mobile networks, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related technologies.

We are looking for a software engineer to maintain and develop our online services/projects delivering maps, geospatial data and geographic information to researchers and students across the UK. You’ll be tasked with keeping these complex, dynamic services/projects running smoothly as well as contributing to the evolution of existing and new products in a rapidly changing environment.

Ideally you will have a degree in Computer Science (or related subject) or equivalent relevant work experience, in addition to some experience of working in UNIX (Solaris/Linux) environments, a strong knowledge of Object Orientated design, Java and JavaScript/AJAX development. Knowledge of JSON and XML along with good database skills. We will be looking for an individual who can demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and who has good problem solving skills. The ability to work as part of a dynamic team is essential.
