Salary: Grade 7: £29,837 - £36,661 with a discretionary range to £40,046 p.a.

The Data Archive Manager will be responsible for the management of the group’s spatiotemporal data archives, supporting this area of highly technical and interdisciplinary science. The main responsibilities and duties are leading the development of a system for acquisition, preparation, and preservation of global environmental, socio-economic, and disease data sets; creating and/or updating documentation (i.e. metadata) describing the existing and future datasets; maintaining continuity and expanding the scope of core data products, and assisting in the development and maintenance of an online data distribution system for datasets.

This post is fixed-term for 2 years.

Candidates must have a first or upper second class Bachelor degree and intermediate to advanced programming expertise in one or more languages commonly used in research (R, Python, IDL, C, etc.) as well as extensive experience managing large (i.e. multiple terabyte) scientific data archives, the demonstrated ability to adapt and apply existing scripts and algorithms, knowledge of different data formats used in geospatial modelling and a general working knowledge of Linux. The interview will include a 5 minute presentation on the candidate’s previous work that is relevant to this post as well as a 30 minute programming skills test. The candidate will join a large and dynamic group under the supervision of Professor Simon Hay. Funding is available to support training, collaborative visits and conference attendance.
