Forums:

The Floods Group at HR Wallingford is internationally recognised as experts in the field of flood risk assessment. We have considerable experience of hazard and risk mapping – from national scale assessment using broad-scale tools, to regional and local flood risk assessments. Our consultancy studies are backed by leading edge tools and our active involvements in climate change and flood risk research.

Continued success with research and consultancy in the field of probabilistic flood modelling has created the opportunity for a GIS Analyst / Developer with 5 plus years’ experience to join our team. As a pre-requisite you must have strong analytical and programming skills in spatial data processing, both from an architectural and implementation perspective. In particular we require someone with ArcGIS expertise and noteworthy experience of ArcGIS development using C#.NET, VBA and python.  Direct experience of the following would be advantageous: MS Access, SQL Server, Oracle (or Oracle spatial), PostgreSQL (or PostGIS), Web mapping, open source GIS and FME Workbench / Server, system testing, delivering training, managing projects and developing business. An appreciation of open channel hydraulics, physical geography, fluvial, tidal and coastal processes or numerical modelling and simulation would also be useful, as would knowledge of Floods related data and the marketplace.

Working as a member of the Floods Group of GIS Analysts / Developers you will have responsibility for designing and delivering innovative solutions for a wide range of research and consultancy projects covering topics ranging from flood hazard mapping and risk modelling to climate change assessments and scheme optimisation. It is essential that you can work well individually and as part of a team where you will need to present arguments, demonstrate particular strategies and engage others in their implementation.
