An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Mathematical modeller/Mathematical Epidemiologist based in Vietnam working in the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit. We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, analytically-minded postdoctoral research scientist that (1) has a quantitative background in modern methods in mathematical epidemiology, disease dynamics, and model-fitting, and (2) wishes to use this opportunity to build a research team around their own research questions.

The research focuses on analysing time series of infectious disease case reports based on serology rather than symptoms and reporting patterns. In southern Vietnam, we have been performing continuous general-population serum collection since 2009. Microarray-based assays have converted this serum collection into a time series of antibody measurements. For dengue and influenza, we are working to transform this antibody time series into an incidence time series. This is currently the largest serological data set in the world, and the only one structured as a time series.

Your duties will include analysing large serological data time series, defining and answering scientific questions in influenza and dengue epidemiology, presenting research in peer-reviewed scientific publications and at international conferences.

You will have a PhD focused on mathematical modelling, quantitative biology, disease dynamics, big data analysis, statistics, biostatistics, or a related field, experience in a programming language like C++, Java, Python, or similar and proven ability to work collaboratively and well under pressure.

The position is available on a full-time basis for 2 years in the first instance.
