The International Panel on Climate Change 5th Assessment resulted in an entirely new set of climate projections based on 17 of the 42 Global Climate Models used in the Assessment (see table below). Rather than the climate Scenarios used in the 4th Assessment, the new projections were estimated for 4 Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) Scenarios which according to the IPCC report “represent a larger set of mitigation scenarios (than their predecessors) and were selected to have different targets in terms of radiative forcing at 2100 (about 2.6, 4.5, 6.0 and 8.5 W m–2; Figure TS.15). The scenarios should be considered plausible and illustrative, and do not have probabilities attached to them.
Downscaling was done by the delta method using WorldClim v1.03 http://www.worldclim.org/ as the baseline. The delta difference was calculated by the regression method of Jones & Thornton (Jones, P. G. and Thornton, P. K. (2013) Generating downscaled weather data from a suite of climate models for agricul-tural modelling applications. Agric. Systems. 114 (2013) 1-5). The ensemble was calculated directly from the regression coefficients, as was the regression standard deviation.
