The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is recruiting 3 Scientists (optical remote sensing) for a contract of fixed duration until December 2019

Context

The researchers will work in the team REMSEM (Remote Sensing and Ecosystem Modelling) in the Operational Directorate Natural Environment (OD Nature) of the RBINS and will work on research projects in the field of optical remote sensing of coastal and inland waters. The REMSEM team uses satellite data to measure parameters of environmental relevance such as the concentrations of chlorophyll a (phytoplankton) and suspended sediments. A description of our remote sensing activities can be found at http://odnature.naturalsciences.be/remsem/. More general information on RBINS/OD_Nature's marine activities can be found at http://odnature.naturalsciences.be/home/.

Three positions (abc) are available with main task (60% time) one of:
a) Optical modelling and remote sensing algorithm research and development,
b) Multi-mission satellite data processing software development and exploitation for aquatic research and applications, OR
c) Optical measurement data acquisition and processing and instrument management

In addition each scientist will be responsible for: Interactions with users of satellite data and/or web site content development (20%); and project management/administration tasks (20%).

Diploma

a) PhD in Remote Sensing or equivalent publications (min. 3 peer-reviewed as 1st author) bc) Scientific Masters (or similar) technical skills
b) Talent for computational scientific work (automated mass data processing)
c) Talent for work with scientific instruments including fieldwork

General skills

  • Enthusiasm for research and an innovative spirit;
  • Ability to work flexibly in a team on multiple projects
  • Good communication skills (oral presentation, scientific publications, web site content, etc.)
