Development of Low Resolution imagery advanced processing system

The MONDE (MOnitoring Natural resources for DEvelopment) Action has developed a Digital Observatory of Protected Areas (DOPA, http://dopa.jrc.ec.europa.eu) to support biodiversity management in the EU partner countries. DOPA relies – among other things – on the eStation, an automatic tool that receives, processes and disseminates satellite environmental information (http://estation.jrc.ec.europa.eu/).

In the context of the extension of DOPA to Bolivia, themain objective of this research project is to adapt the eStation, initially conceived for the African continent, to Bolivia and more generally to the Latin American continent. This will imply   revising the design and ensuring new developments according to the sources and the type of data available, putting in place operational processing chains and technical support systems.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD in geo-informatics, remote sensing or related fields, or alternatively 5 years of research experience after a university degree giving access to doctoral studies. Experience in the field of implementing processing and validation of Earth Observation products is essential. Knowledge of Linux (preferably Ubuntu), bash, python, gdal and DBMS, including postgreSQL, is required. Software design and documentation skills are an asset.

The working language in MONDE is English. Relevant publications should be highlighted. The JRC is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its staff. It welcomes applications from women and minority groups.
