Project: “EDENext: BIOLOGY AND CONTROL OF VECTOR BORNE INFECTIONS IN EUROPE” call FP7 HEALTH 2010 European Union.

The European Union funded project (FP7) will investigate biological, ecological and epidemiological components of the introduction, emergence and dissemination of different arthropod borne diseases in Europe, especially those of great medical and veterinary relevance.

The PhD candidate will participate in the subproject of diseases transmitted by biting midges of the genus Culicoides, performing vector competence studies (experimental infection assays), population genetics, ecological studies and mosquito breeding. Part of the work will be performed on field and in biosecurity level 3 facilities (BSL3).

Place: Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal (CReSA), subprogram transboundary diseases (entomology unit).

Requirements for candidate:

  • Must be graduated on Biology, Biotechnology, Veterinary or Environmental Sciences.
  • Must have an academic expedient equal to or superior to 2.5 for having a chance to apply for a predoctoral grant.
  • Previous experience on entomology, virology or molecular biology will be highly considered.
  • Driving license.
