We are looking for a doctoral/post-doctoral researcher for 2 years  at the Institute of Health and Society at the Louvain School of Medicine in Brussels. The research is part of the ENHANCE project (FP7) mainly oriented towards multi-sector partnerships and governance. Our part is to undertake a case study on extreme climate events (heat or cold waves) and general morbidity in selected EU countries. While the overall approach is extreme climate events and health, the topic as described above can be modified to reflect the researchers interest and availability of data.  Familiarity with climate data handling, epidemiological analyses is required. Travel within Europe and beyond should be foreseen. Passive knowledge of French will be anasset. The post should ideally be filled by June 1st.

The Centre www.cred.be is a WHO collaborating centre mainly working on health issues related disasters (eg: risk factors for mortality after earthquakes, trauma and injury patterns,  malnutrition associated to floods and droughts and civil conflicts (eg: disease and malnutrition among refugees, displaced or communities in conflict zones). The working language is English and the team is multidisciplinary and multicultural. There is opportunity for the researcher to participate in wider activities in developing countries including field work.  Some teaching to students in Joint Masters (University of Oviedo and Karolinska Institute) on public health in disasters and other programmes may be included.
